Where: The Kamchatka Peninsula of the Russian Far East. This peninsula is located across the Bering Sea and the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The Kamchatka Peninsula is home to five tribes of native people, nearly all who do not know the Lord Jesus.
Who: We will be going to two villages of the Even People. These people are an unreached group of indigenous people who originated in northeastern Siberia and migrated to the Kamchatka Peninsula 150 years ago. They are well known for their skill and lifestyle as reindeer herders.
What and how: We will be sharing the gospel with the Even people through sharing our testimonies at home visits and community gatherings and events. We will also be participating in everyday type of events where we have opportunity to visit and share the gospel on a one on one or small group situation.
Opportunities to tell about your home, family, tribe, and life experiences will be greatly appreciated by Even native people that we visit with. Sharing of photo albums, special music, arts, crafts, dance, or any other things unique to your First Nations or Native American background will be eagerly accepted. Upon surveying Even people on a previous trip, they were very eager to meet First Nations people from Canada and Native Americans.
We will be hiring translators so that what we have to share will be translated into the Russian language.
How much: Depending upon the economy and the price of airline tickets the total cost per person should be between $3500 - 4000 USD. We will be fundraising as a group so the pressure of individual expenses doesn’t fall upon each individual.
Passports: If you don’t already have a passport, now is the time to apply for one. Applications may be found online or at local post offices.
Timeline: Make a decision to go on the trip by March 15, 2010. Have your passport in possession by the end of March in order to apply for Russian travel visas.
